US President Barack Obama to the Rescue on Haiti Earthquake

US President Barack Obama has pledged “full support” during the press conference to the people of Haiti in the wake of a powerful earthquake in the island.

The President’s Statement:
“My thoughts and prayers go out to those who have been affected by this earthquake. We are closely monitoring the situation and we stand ready to assist the people of Haiti.” quoted from The White House Blog

The 7.0-magnitude quake, recorded as Haiti’s worst earthquake devastation in two centuries, struck south of the capital, Port-au-Prince, on Tuesday that left the small island nation of Haiti in “total disaster and chaos.

The extent of the destruction from a huge quake in Haiti is slowly emerging, with thousands of people feared dead.

“The lack of coordination, duplication of effort and mismanagement of resources that often plagues relief efforts will be avoided this time,” according to Michael Delaney, Director of Humanitarian Assistance for Oxfam America.

The International Red Cross says a third of Haiti’s 9 million people may need emergency aid and that it would take a day or two for a clear picture of the damage to emerge from Tuesday afternoon’s magnitude-7.0 earthquake.Seth Wenig/AP
