The 2010 Macy’s fireworks show will feature more than 40,000 shells exploding at a rate of more than 1,500 per minute and fireworks reaching heights of 1,000 feet in the air. At approximately 9:20 pm on July 4th, the 26-minute display will be set off from six barges positioned between 24th and 50th Streets on the Hudson River. This year, Macy’s has increased the number of shells that can reach heights of 1,000 feet in the sky, providing for greater visibility of the show for millions more spectators.
The trademark Macy’s “Golden Mile” fireworks effect, featuring a shower of golden sparks stretching a mile across the river, will be enhanced this year with additional mile-long showers of sparkling red and green.
“American Harmony” is the theme of the 2010 fireworks spectacular and the musical score will feature vocal harmony in styles uniquely American — from a capella and gospel to barbershop quartets and choral ensembles. The score will feature The New York Pops orchestra, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and some of America’s top vocal groups – excerpt from: http://manhattan.about.com/od/eventsandattractions/a/nycjulyfourth.htm

Maurice Strong: International Man of Mystery
May 13, 2010 by ViNZ
“The survival of civilization in something like its present form might depend significantly on the efforts of a single man,” declared The New Yorker. The New York Times hailed that man as the “Custodian of the Planet.” He is perpetually on the short list of candidates for Secretary General of the United Nations. This lofty eminence? Maurice Strong, of course. Never heard of him? Well, you should have. Militia members are famously worried that black helicopters are practicing maneuvers with blue-helmeted UN troops in a plot to take over America. But the actual peril is more subtle. A small cadre of obscure international bureaucrats are hard at work devising a system of “global governance” that is slowly gaining control over ordinary Americans’ lives.
Maurice Strong, a 68-year-old Canadian, is the “indispensable man” at the center of this creeping UN power grab.
Among the hats he currently wears are: Senior Advisor to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan; Senior Advisor to World Bank President James Wolfensohn; Chairman of the Earth Council; Chairman of the World Resources Institute; Co-Chairman of the Council of the World Economic Forum; member of Toyota’s International Advisory Board. As advisor to Kofi Annan, he is overseeing the new UN reforms.
Yet his most prominent and influential role to date was as Secretary General of the 1992 UN Conference on Environment and Development — the so-called Earth Summit — held in Rio de Janeiro, which gave a significant push to global economic and environmental regulation. excerpt from afn.org

NASA Space Shuttle Discovery lifted from Launch Pad 39A at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida at 6:21 am (1021 GMT) Monday, 5 April 2010 as scheduled toward the International Space Station for a mission that will put more women in orbit than ever before. The aircraft is planned to be located 13 days in outer space international station and bring the 7 astronauts with a mission to bring supplies.
The Easter Monday launch is apparently progressing smoothly after the external fuel tanks were filled yesterday in preparation.
The weather forecast appears to be good so far although there are some reports of fog due.The two booster rockets, which account for 80 percent of the shuttle’s lift during takeoff, peeled away as planned 120 seconds after the launch. They fell into the Atlantic Ocean, where they will be subsequently retrieved and reused.
The shuttle reached Earth’s orbit eight and a half minutes after launch, moving at five times the speed of sound to reach 16,155 miles (26,000 kilometers) per hour.Once it goes into orbit some 140 miles (225 km) above Earth, Discovery will begin its race toward the ISS, itself located 213 miles (343 km) above Earth.

Maurice Hinchey Statement on Health Care Reform Bill Passage
March 22, 2010 by ViNZ
Washington, D.C. — Congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) has released the following statement regarding House passage of the health care reform bill. The congressman voted in favor of the legislation.
“Tonight, our country took a bold step forward in the effort to ensure that every American has access to quality, affordable health insurance. While this bill does not go as far I would have preferred, it nevertheless represents the most significant and positive piece of health care reform legislation since the creation of Medicare and Medicaid in 1965. My vote in favor of this bill is one of the most important votes I have cast during my time in Congress.
“For years, I have listened to stories from upstate New Yorkers who have struggled with the rising cost of premiums and an endless stream of deductibles, co-pays and fees. I have talked with small business owners who struggle to provide good benefits to their employees, but have remained powerless in the face of rising costs in a broken health care marketplace. I have heard from seniors who still find it hard to afford the life-saving prescription drugs they need. And even more concerning are the countless stories from those who have fallen ill and then into bankruptcy or other difficult circumstances – even though they thought they had good coverage. Now, after two generations of waiting, those who have carried the physical pain and economic burden of our broken health care system will finally begin to see the relief they so desperately need.
